There Are Two

Excerpt from a scrapbook page I did for Jack & Beau:

even now, four months after your births, i look at you two together and think...there are two. the concept is a little overwhelming but a definite reality. then, i look down at the two of you together and you smile up at me at the same time, and i think with a swelling heart...there are two. i still don’t understand why God decided to bless us so completely. i need to stop wondering and enjoy the fact that there are two!

This blog post is dedicated to our amazing duo. Believe it or not, they will be six months old on April 9th. They are completely out of the wet noodle stage, inspecting everything around them and communicating with us in smiles and coos. While having twins can be overwhelming, it is more than twice as fun to watch them together. When next to each other, they instantly clasp hands...as if it is the most natural thing in the world. They still sleep in the same crib on opposite ends, and it will truly break my heart when it is too crowded in there for them to be together. When I look at them, I often wonder about all of those things you hear about twins and their special connection and makes me so excited to see how they will grow up together...always having a special bond with each other.

They started on veggies last month and fruits this month and LOVE their food. They can easily split three jars of baby food at a sitting. They are fiercely competitive about their food...not wanting to alternate bites when feeding. I can barely get the spoon in one's mouth and the other is giving me an earful. The situation is really quite humorous and something I've been lucky enough to catch on video. We've quickly come to the conclusion that they must be stripped-down when they eat...faces only a mother could love!

The other thing that they fight over is Mommy. They are constantly competing for my attention...whichever smiles the biggest at Mommy gets to interact with her...or so they think. Many in my family can attest to a situation at Kristine's rehearsal where I took Beau out of someone's arms to put him to sleep on my shoulder. Jack almost catapulted himself out of my dad's arms, yapping at me the entire time. If only I had two more arms. They are getting way too big and mobile to hold at the same time.

As the six month mark grows closer they are doing more and more...spending more time alone on their mats or in their swings playing with anything they can get their hands on and in their mouths. I am very excited for spring so we can get them outside with the girls more and more.
