The Thursday before Halloween, we went to Sewanee Elementary for dinner and a reverse parade. What is a reverse parade you ask? Well don't worry...we did as well!
We dressed all the Kids up in their costumes and headed out. After dinner of square pizza in the school cafeteria, we went outside to find out what this was all about. All of the Sewanee firetrucks and ambulances were lined up in the street ready to lead the parade down the street. We quickly learned that reverse parade is when the the children walk down the street and the people on the sides of the road throw candy. I probably don't need to tell you that the Kids loved it! It was like piranhas whenever they heard the sound of candy hitting the concrete.
The Boys were especially funny because they would not let go of their candy in their hands. Not knowing what a reverse parade was or that candy would be involved, we did not bring their candy buckets. We quickly made Abi's witch hat into a candy collector; although, the Boys wanted no part of that. What candy was not in their mouths was clutched in their hands. This didn't stop them from trying to collect more candy, but that did prove problematic. When they would bend down to pick up a new piece, an old piece would fall out. Ryan and I followed behind them picking up candy that they hadn't realized they lost.
